The Failing Bipartisan System

The bipartisan system is supposed to work on a system of checks and balances, one party keeping the other in line sort of deal. The problem that no one seemed to predict is that we are expecting two groups with complete opposite opinions to work together for a common goal, even though they both want different outcomes. The more important problem, however, is that the power is not equal. From 1994- 2006 republicans retained most of the power within congress simply because they had more party members in the house. In 2006 the power scale shifted greatly to the Democrats. Now with a democratic president and a democratic congress, we have a strongly democratic government and a bunch of angry repulicans.
The health care bill is a good example. The democrats believe that it's about time that we catch up with the rest of the world and suply our good people with a government regulated health care system. The republicans, however, feel like they're having some socialist system brought upon America. Neither of the partys can agree to work towards a common goal.
